House Mice are very small, about 2 inches, and can fit through holes as small as a dime. They are gray in color and have very soft fur almost like velvet. Mice are very good climbers, they can climb rough vertical areas and even jump almost a foot. A small mouse problem can escalate very quickly because a female can give birth to a litter every 3 weeks!
Roof rats are black in color and are sometimes referred to as black rats. They are larger than a mouse, length can be 7 to 10 inches and they have larger heads and hind feet. Rats are more destructive than mice, they are also more cautious making them harder to trap.
With any infestation of mice or rats we recommend doing exclusion and sanitation. Common problems associated with mice and rats are their urine and feces, those with allergies are more sensitive. Not only do they spread germs they can also have fleas, ticks and mites.
